Founded in 1869 as the American Philological Association, APA changed its name to SCS after 2012 to reflect better on their goals. SCS seeks the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, and civilizations. Majority of its members are university and college Classics teachers. Members also include scholars in other disciplines, primary and secondary school teachers, and interested lay people. Membership: $36-328 (Individual, based on salary); $34 (Student/Joint); $5,000 (Life); $140-150 (Domestic Institutional/Foreign Institutional Subscriber).
